Hand painted floorcloths
or canvas rugs have
been decorative as well as, functional adornments in American and European homes
since the 1700's. In the 18th century the word "floorcloth" was a generic term that referred to a
carpet substitute made from cotton, linen or wool. In addition to serving
as primary floor coverings, floorcloths were also used under tables, sideboards
and on top of finer flooring to
protect from spills and stains. Floorcloth are catching on and they are
gaining favor and popularity. A painted floorcloth is durable, colorful,
lightweight and economical. Additionally, they are an easy way to add
color to any area of your home. Floorcloth can be painted to match any
decor and design, or can be completely whimsical! Hand painted floorcloths
are very easy to clean and with proper care will last for decades. Vacuum
or sweep the surface and then wipe or mop with soapy water, never use harsh
cleaners (you won't need to anyway). I will be painting more floor cloths
